Project KPH PledgePage
Project KPH was founded in October 2007 with its main purpose to enable the inclusion of special needs children at rounds of the Motorsport New Zealand Championship series events (Tier One) throughout the country.
At these events the Project sees a group of approximately five special needs children and their parent/caregiver enjoy a hosted day at a round in their local area; where they are able to meet with some of New Zealand’s Top Motorsport talent. The KPH kids are all supplied with a Project KPH t-shirt they are able to have signed, get up close and personal with the drivers and teams and soak up all this electric atmosphere offers in a safe, positive, empowering environment - where their interest in the sport is taken as seriously as any other fan. Generally these kids have a day not available to the public. Their experience is unique and holds true meaning for them. For many of the KPH kids this is simply an opportunity they otherwise wouldn't have. Some of the parents have reported a stigma about having their child in such a public place, and that because of the pressure that having a special needs child places on a family unit, many of the KPH kids are from solo parent, therefore solo income homes—this of course meaning less resources with which to pursue interests. KPH kids all have one thing in common—a passion for Motorsport; Project KPH sees to it that these children are given the opportunity to exercise that interest as anyone else would, only better! There are two major goals for the 2008/09 race season: 1) To host a minimum of 35 KPH kids at 8 of the 9 rounds throughout New Zealand 2) To be able to offer two past KPH kids and their parent/caregiver the opportunity to have a hosted weekend at the F1 Grand Prix in Melbourne March 2009 Project KPH operates under a strict set of values which see that the spirit in which the Project was born is maintained and continues to deliver what is an authentic and unique way to enable inclusion with a strong personal and charitable focus.
